About

My quandry: I love to travel but hate looking like a tourist. In this blog, I’ll be writing about my adventures, both international and local, and trying to get over my anti-tourist snobbery. I usually be traveling with my partner, B.

About the header photo for the blog: This is a detail from the door of the church in San Juan Chamula, Chiapas, Mexico, where we visited in 2008. Though I typically eschew tours, we took a tour of this town when we visited: it’s the kind of place where a guided tour is probably the best way to learn a bit about the the local Mayan culture without making a major faux pas (like taking pictures of the locals–a taboo). We did visit the inside of the church and saw Mayan religious ceremonies in progress, but no pictures were taken inside. Instead, we focused on the gorgeous architectural details of the outside of the church.
